Have you ever wondered how to describe one's soul?
I have. So when I came across this while doing some
research for one of my courses I wanted to share it:
"When a fleet of ships sets sail, one of them
sets the course for all of the others. It is the heart
of the entire fleet, no matter how many ships are in
it. Setting the course for the fleet does not mean determining
what happens aboard each ship. The many interactions
on each ship unfold in their own ways
On some
ships the journey is generally pleasant. On others it
is always difficult. Imagine that the mother ship is
the largest sea-going vessel you can picture in your
mind
Imagine that the rest of the ships in the
fleet are small boats, each with room enough for one
person. The mother ship is your soul and you are one
of the small boats
When you are in touch with your
mother ship, you have another much larger perspective
to guide you through the storms of your life
Your
mother ship has it's own destination. It always sails
towards harmony, co-operation, sharing and reverence
for Life. When that is your destination too you are
coordinated with it most effectively. If you sail in
an opposite direction you can lose track of it completely."
This was written by Gary Zukav, author of 'The Seat
of the Soul'. He goes on to say that we need to learn
to communicate with our soul to become the person we
really are. He calls this enlightenment.
Why am I sharing this with you? Because I believe we
deny ourselves so much. In our quest to be so many things
for so many reasons and for so many people we forget
to be who we really are - our authentic selves. We find
all the reasons why we shouldn't do whatever it is we
want to do instead of all the reasons why we should.
"The soul needs to be fattened" said Thomas
Moore in his book 'Re-enchantment of Everyday Life'.
In need of some space and R&R I took myself off
to the Royal Livingstone Hotel at the Victoria Falls
in Zambia. Soul food! I spent five days feeding my soul
and feasting on the small things that we forget give
us so much pleasure. David Livingstone penned the following
words about the Falls:
"Scenes so lovely must have been
gazed upon by angels in their flight."
These pictures hopefully help you
feel closer
to what I experienced. |
