Issue 42

As we draw to the close of another year it is time for some reflection. The happy times, perhaps missed opportunities, the good, the bad, the joyful and the sad. Reflection is not just looking back - it is about mindful attention to lessons learned and applying them to future growth and well-being in the years ahead.

1. WHAT DID YOU ACCOMPLISH / SUCCEED AT THAT YOU ARE PROUD OF?

What were your wins? To celebrate even small wins is important. These can be in any aspect of your life be it spiritually, emotionally, vocational, physical, etc.

Here are some of mine

Getting 5 new clients with whom I had never worked with before.

Moving my mom successfully down to a retirement village in the Eastern Cape and watching her settle in.

Homing my 74th kitten that I have fostered.

2. WHAT DID YOU ENJOY THE MOST?

Was it your work, your interactions with others, your hobbies, your family...?

Here are some of mine:

3. WHAT DISAPPOINTMENTS / FAILURES OR REGRETS DID YOU EXPERIENCE?

Sometimes looking at one’s failures is not easy however it is a necessary exercise. To move forward one has to be honest about where one was not successful.

Here are some of mine

Not getting as much work as I would have liked to this year.

Attending gym less regularly than I wanted to.

Not practicing playing my piano as much as I should have.

4. WHAT LESSONS DID YOU LEARN?

We never stop learning – in fact we should never stop learning. What lessons did life teach you in the past year? Understanding these lessons helps one to grow and be better equipped for similar situations in the future.

Here are some of mine

Never ever stop trying.

You can never please everyone all the time.

Saying NO is sometimes more important than saying YES.

5. HOW MANY OF YOUR GOALS DID YOU ACHIEVE?

In fact did you even have goals and most importantly were they written down? What were you able to tick off and which ones are still outstanding? What do you still want to achieve before year end? Where do you need to spend more time and effort or perhaps even change them for the year ahead? Reviewing, revising and reflecting on your goals is a vital exercise.

Here are some of the goals I achieved and some I didn’t:

Time for New Beginnings
Taylor Addison, Blue Mountain Arts

“This is a time for reflection as well as celebration.
As you look back on the past year and all that has taken place in your life,
Remember each experience for the good that has come of it
and for the knowledge you have gained.
Remember the efforts you have made and the goals you have reached.
Remember the love you have shared and the happiness you have brought.
Remember the laughter, the joy, the hard work, and the tears.
And as you reflect on the past year, also be thinking of the new one to come.
Because most importantly, this is a time of new beginnings
and the celebration of life.”

6. WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO MORE OF / DIFFERENTLY?

What do you need to spend more time doing or perhaps take a different approach to? What is not getting enough of your time? Where do you need to be more organized and/or more disciplined?

Here are some of mine

Not be so hard on myself and give myself some more me time.

Go to more theatres and shows.

Gym more... play piano more... do my arts and crafts more.

Wishing you and your family a wonderful festive season and richest blessings for 2015.

With warmest regards
